Schedule: Full-time, scheduled school hours and days

Setting: Public school district, special education (various program needs)

About the Assignment

We’re seeking Special Education Teachers to serve students in a school district in Colorado Springs, CO. Needs are varied, with openings in resource, SSN, INR, and Autism programs. You’ll design and deliver evidence-based instruction aligned with the Colorado Academic Standards, with an emphasis on literacy and mathematics. You’ll adapt your teaching for students with diverse needs and ability levels, assess student progress, and adjust instruction accordingly. You’ll also collaborate with families and the education team to support each student’s academic, social, and emotional success. Responsibilities include:

• Creating a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment, with students supervised at all times
• Using formal and informal assessments to inform planning and give feedback
• Integrating technology to support instruction and student learning
• Maintaining accurate records and managing materials and supplies
• Supervising volunteers and paraprofessionals where applicable
• Responding to safety and crisis situations as directed
• Participating in ongoing training as required

This is an active role that may require moving between locations quickly based on student and staff needs. It requires lifting up to 50 pounds, assisting with student lifts when needed, and physically restraining students when necessary.

Requirements

• Colorado Teaching License with a Special Education endorsement
• Bachelor’s degree
• Meets subject, grade level, and content area qualifications set by the Colorado Department of Education and the district
• Knowledge of special education programming and associated legal requirements
• Experience in resource, SSN, INR, or Autism programs preferred
• Ability to work independently and in a team setting
• Strong written and verbal communication, organization, and time management skills
• Understanding of data privacy laws in education
